How do I transfer my website to Hosting Impact?
- First order your hosting package with us.
- Once we have received payment and created your web hosting package
we will email you a Welcome Email with your passwords etc for
your Website Hosting Package.
- Upload your website to our server.
- Check your website is functioning correctly. Refer to your welcome
email.
- Login in to you Domain registrar and change the DNS or Domain
Name Servers to the following:
ns1.yourhostservices.com (IP if required is: 72.29.87.12)
ns2.yourhostservices.com (IP if required is: 72.29.87.13)
- Your Domain will take 24-72 hours to fully propagate on the
internet. (this means for the internet to fully pick up the change
of servers)
- Your Website and email may bounce between the old server and
new server for a couple of days. This is normal and out of our
Control. It is just the internet catching up all over the world.
- You may wish to commence the transfer on a Friday afternoon
to alleviate any disruption to your emails and website.
What is DNS?
DNS stands for Domain Name Server. For your Domain name to be found
on the internet it must have the domain name servers or DNS set
to an IP Address. This tells the internet where to find your domain
name and your website.
Your Domain Name Server or DNS is generally controlled by the Registrar
where you purchased your Domain Name. Log into the Domain Name Registrar
Control Panel and you will find an area that will allow you to change
your DNS (Domain Name Servers).
I've transferred my site, why can't I see it?
Can you surf the internet. Check you are online?
Have you uploaded your website to our servers?
When you change the DNS for a Domain Name it takes between 24 -
72 hours to fully propagate (be found on the internet). Please give
the website the time to propagate completely. Unfortunately, there
is nothing Hosting Impact can do to speed up the propagation process.
How do I upload my website?
To upload your website to our servers you will require a FTP (File
Transfer Protocal) Programme. If you do not have an ftp programme
you may wish to try File Zilla which is an open source free programme.
(type filezilla into google). Please refer to How do I update my
website? Tutorial for more information on how to use FileZilla.
• Using an ftp programme login to the server using the passwords
provided to you by Hosting Impact in your original welcome email.
• On the server side navigate to the public_html folder.
• Double click to open the public_html folder
• Transfer from your computer all files and folders that are
relevant to you website eg images folder, index.htm page to the
server
• Depending on the size of your website this may take some
time.
• Please check your website is working correctly. If your
domain has not yet fully propagated please use the following link
to view your website until it propagates fully:
